Does this sound like your morning? Get up, get ready for work, pour a cup of Joe or stop in for a cup at your local coffee shop or café before making your way to the office. Do you always order the same hot or blended beverage day after day?
Being creatures of habit, it’s just easier to stick with the same thing that’s tried and true, I know because I do it all of the time. It’s easier to stay safe than to adventure out and try something different. But why not? You’ll never know how good something is if you’re not willing to try something new. I tell my kids all of the time, ‘just try it, you might like it.’ I sound just like my Dad’s old bumper sticker that used to hang in his 1965’ Mustang.
So why are we so afraid of trying something new? One reason could be is, we may not like it or it isn’t good as what we usually order and who needs disappointment first thing in the morning? On the other hand, taking a risk and ordering something different may be just what you need to kick start you morning into high gear. You may also discover that the new beverage you are now drinking tops what you usually order and is now your number one.
Here are some suggestions that you may want to try:
•Drink tea instead of coffee. Tea is becoming more popular and there are so many varieties to choose from. Even if it doesn’t become your favorite, it’s a great alternative.
•Try a blended beverage ‘frappe’ or served over ice. Many hot beverages can also be served cold and there are many great options to creating your own signature beverage. Cold blended beverages or served over ice doesn’t have to be enjoyed only on a hot summer day but any time of the year.
•Try a sugar free option. If you are trying to limit your sugar intake for the day, sugar free bases are available to use with your coffee or espresso. Some sugar free options can also be served as a stand-alone beverage hot or cold.
•Drink cocoa instead. If you are looking for a non-caffeine alternative, try hot cocoa instead. There are so many varieties of cocoa. There is a dark cocoa, milk chocolate cocoa, European cocoa and even Mexican Spiced cocoa. No matter your preference, hot cocoa can simply hit the spot that coffee can’t touch.
•Add nutritional supplements to your favorite beverage. Nutritional supplements can take an ordinary beverage to a healthier option. Adding protein can change your favorite beverage into a meal replacement. Many nutritional supplements come in blends that give you the extra boost you need to feeling better and staying healthy.
•Adding yogurt. Why not try adding yogurt, if this option is available. Yogurt usually contains pre & pro-biotics that can transform your beverage to a healthy option. Plus it can add a creamy, silky mouth-feel that yogurt provides.
•Drink a smoothie. Why not…drinking a smoothie loaded with fruit is the perfect way to kick start your day. Smoothies are fun and they taste great; they come in several different flavors and will help you get the recommended 5 fruits a day.
With so many great options and I’ve only named a few, take a risk and be adventurous at least once a week. Go for it on a Friday to ease into the weekend, or how about a Monday when the week is just starting and you need a fresh perspective or a kick to start your week. What’s the worst thing that could happen? You can always go back to the tried and true or yet you might find your new favorite beverage. In any case, Cheers!
